‘Shifting Past’ (above), mixed media, acrylic and metal, 23 x 50 inches. Part of Cheryl’s inspiration for this type of work is in the independent movement of the small tiles. Each acrylic piece is individually back-painted and suspended from a metal peg which extends from the metal surface.

“My paintings are a result of an intuitive process that develops out of the combination of layers, colors, shapes and textures. I am fascinated by layers of transparent color peeking out beneath other layers. My paintings also symbolize a curiosity of the delicate connections of colors and shapes in the  natural world” Cheryl Martin

What’s new in frame designs you ask? We’re seeing designs characterized by custom elements – adding dimension by layering mats, combining or “stacking” mouldings, and adding depth through the use of textured or fabric mats.

What’s hot? Natural wood tones – the aged and “reclaimed” look is BIG! Metallics (silver, gold, copper & bronze) continue to be popular, especially those with clean lines and textured/mottled finishes. Want to add some pop to a room? Try an array of bright colored frames with glossy or lacquered finishes. Lastly, we are seeing more transitional and contemporary designs, and fewer traditional/ornate designs.
